Choosing outfits

  • Choose comfortable clothes and shoes that you and your children can move around in
  • Choose two or three complamentary colors (you can never go wrong with earth tones!)
  • Mix in a pattern or two to keep the photo interesting, but don't go overboard. Stick with two patterns max.
  • Avoid small patterns (pinstripes, small flowers or dots, shirts with a small patterned texture) these can make the image look warped.
  • Don't be afraid to layer (unless it's summer in Texas!) Layers can add dimension to your outfit and create a more visually interesting photo. Try adding a scarf, cardigan in the fall!
  • Avoid wearing black and opt for brown instead. This is just personal to my editing style, I believe it looks so much richer this way!

What to bring

  • Snacks! You already know as a parent, you bring snacks everywhere. Photoshoots are no exception. If your baby needs a little snack then we'll happily take a snack break!
  • If you have a baby in diapers, bring a backup outfit that matches your color pallet. Don't want to end up with everyone in beautiful outfits and baby is in that outfit you don't really love but threw in the bag three weeks ago in case of a blowout (just me?)
  • Anything extra you want in your photos. Want a photo with your daughter's favorite stuffie, bring it!
  • Any touch up items you may want (hairbrush, lipstick, etc.)

How to feel natural in front of the camera

  • Don't stress about posing, I got you covered! (however, you are more than welcome to request poses!)
  • Build your kids up, don't tear them down. "That's a great smile, baby!" instead of "No, a real smile!" When your kids are more relaxed, it makes everything easier
  • Genuine connection matters most, focus on making this a fun experience for your family
  • Prepare your kids ahead of time, not with bribes of ice cream for smiles, but by telling them how fun it will be and about all the beautiful pictures you'll get.
  • Remember that this is all about creating fun memories

What if...

  • What if my kid won't smile? We'll work on getting natural, candid moments of playful family interaction!
  • What if my baby is fussy? Take a break, feed them, rock them. The only time restraint is the sun, if we run out of sunlight because baby needs some mama time, don't worry about it, we can reschedule!
  • What if the weather changes? We choose a new day!
  • What if we're late? I'll do my best to get as much photographed in the time we have. Stuff happens, especially with kids. I'm not watching the clock to see when your "20 minutes" are up.

I hope this all helps!

I truly want you to have the best and easiest experience possible with your family photos. I know it can be stressful but I'm here to help! You're not alone when you book with me.
